TAIPEI, TAIWAN, November 13, 2025 – Run in partnership with the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Club (CTP) at the cavernous Red Space 多元商務空間 venue, the largest festival in Asian poker history is underway, with the official opening ceremony of the inaugural Asian Poker Tour Championship 2025 marking the start of an unprecedented 17-day, 200-event schedule.

Headlined by a TWD TWD 311,000 (USD 10,000) buy-in APT Championship Main Event Freezeout carrying a TWD 156M/USD 5M guarantee—the largest in Asian poker history—the festival comprises 20 Championship Events, plus a further 180 side events and satellites, and boasts over TWD 288 million (~USD 8.7 million) in prize pool guarantees.

The launch of the Asian Poker Tour Championship was marked with an official opening ceremony where APT CEO Fred Leung took to the stage to say a few words:

When this all began in 2022, sitting down with APT owners Michael Soyza, Victor Chong, Daren Yoon, we had a lot of truths for ourselves, and we asked ourselves: 'where are we and who are we?".

At that point, were we number one? No, we're not number two, and we're not number three, and that's here in Asia, and that's the honest truth. We didn't hide it, we said, this is where we are and we are going to work for the next three years towards something special.”

We have been waiting over 30 months for this moment, and it's not by luck; we've planned this for a very, very long time.

"The truth now, is the Asian Poker Tour is the fastest growing poker tour in the world. Not in Asia, in the entire world, and a big part of that is working with other people who believe in finding the truth, people like David Tai (CTP CEO), and CTP – thank you so much! This could not have happened without great partners, who pushed themselves to the brink.

Leung was then joined on stage by CTP CEO David Tai, who followed up with: CTP CEO David Tai at APTC opening ceremony.jpg CTP CEO David Tai

"Thank you, it's our honour to work with the APT group. I believe this is one of the most historic tournaments in Asia, and an event of this scale will attract many international players and generate strong tourism benefits.

I’d like to express my sincere appreciation to the entire APT team, our colleagues from CTP, Red Space’s CEO, and all our venue organisers and partners.

I hope this event brings joy to everyone, and that international players can fully experience everything Taiwan has to offer, tourism and good food, leaving with wonderful memories."

Both Leung and Tai were then joined on stage by Mr. Jerry Yan, chairman of CARRY International, Mr. Thomas Lin - Taipei Law Attorneys-at-Law, Ms. Joy Kuo, CEO of Red Space, Mr. Raymond Wong, CTP Director of International Marketing, Mr. Neil Johnson, president of the Asian Poker Tour, and APT owner Mr. Michael Soyza.

Natural8 ambassadors Eric "Six Poker" Tsai, Yu Chung "Nevan" Chang, Hua-Wei "Wei Wei" Lin, Sparrow Cheong, and I-Chun "Charlie" Chiu also took to the stage, alongside special guest and two-time WSOP Ladies Championship bracelet winner Shiina Okamoto.

APT tournament director Tyler Willse then took centre stage to utter the four most exciting words in poker: "Shuffle up and deal!” and the APT's most ambitious festival got underway.

Thailand’s Teeraphat Rangkatekarn and Taiwan’s Hong Yu Chen Dominate Opening Flights of National Cup Championship

#01Chipleader.jpg Teeraphat Rangkatekarn bagged a seven-figure stack on Flight A of the National Cup Championship

The first of the official APT Championship Events offering players a chance to claim fortune, glory and one of the 20 brand new and exclusive APT Championship Lion Trophies is the TWD 15,000 (~USD 485) buy-in [Event 1] National Cup Championship.

Sporting a TWD 12 million (~USD 388,000) tournament guarantee, the first two of the tournaments’ five opening flights got underway at 11am and 8pm (TST) respectively, drawing a combined total of 724 entries.

While it is still too early to predict accurately whether the current tour record—set right here in Taipei during the APT Taipei 2024 National Cup—of 2,305 entries for the largest-ever APT side event will be broken, with three more flights left to play out there’s a good chance it might be.

Flight A

The initial starting Flight A got underway at 11am local time (TST), with the field climbing to 461 initial entries (351 unique) by the time registration closed at 4:30pm.

The action played out over close to twenty-one full 30-minute levels, with the departure of Taiwan’s Teng-Yu Yu with nine minutes remaining on the clock on level 21 concluding play and guaranteeing the 65 survivors a place in the paying positions.

It is Teeraphat Rangkatekarn currently leading the pack, with the Thai national tearing it up at the tables to bag a seven-figure stack of 1,092,000.

Rangkatekarn was the only Flight A player to crack the million-mark, with Chia Hsiang Ko the next closest competitor – the Taiwanese player closing out the flight with a stack of 793,000.

Gwanu Ju rounded out the top three, winning a huge four-way pre-flop all in pot on level 17 that saw the South Korean player’s pocket aces hold up, and Ju concluded the action with a stack of 787,000, with the top ten Flight A stacks as follows:
