TAIPEI, TAIWAN, April 28, 2026– APT Taipei 2026 has just crossed its halfway mark, but plenty of action is still to come! The Main Event has concluded its final two flights today and surpassed its TWD 70 million guarantee. Players across Red Space were determined to make it to Day 2, and the competitive spirit in the air was palpable.

On the side tables, Chess took the spotlight in the first Mind Sports Week. Chinese Chess was played out yesterday, while Go will feature tomorrow at the Asia Poker Arena (APA). Read on below to find out what happened on the Chess boards, with a full helping of poker to go with it.

Chess Debuts on Mind Sports Week

Day 7 of APT Taipei 2026 saw Mind Sports Week take another step forward, with Chess making its debut on the schedule. A total of 21 players signed up for the first-ever Chess x Poker event in APT history. In the end, it was Alex Wong, Vice President of the Players Series, who emerged victorious, earning TWD 28,406 (~USD 902), including an additional TWD 10,000 awarded by the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Club (CTP).

Running alongside the event was the engaging “Beat the CEO” challenge, where participants had the opportunity to face Asian Poker Tour CEO Fred Leung in a one-on-one match for a special Mini Lion Trophy exclusive to the event. By the end of the challenge, Leung posted a 3–4 record and gave out four trophies to winning participants.

Reflecting on the initiative, Leung shared his optimism for the future of Mind Sports Week: “Mind Sports Week is just the start. The records are modest—for now—but so were poker mixed games when we first introduced them three years ago, and today they define us. What matters most is the engagement—I’ve genuinely enjoyed connecting with players through the Beat The CEO challenge and the feedback was very positive. We’re certainly looking to build on this.”

With strong engagement and positive reception, Mind Sports Week continues to highlight the Tour’s ambition to broaden the poker experience. Players can expect more of these crossover formats in future APT stops as the Tour continues to push the boundaries of poker innovation.
