The action was fast and frantic after the bubble burst, with Malaysia's Tien Loon Ling and the USA's Joseph Cheong both falling victim to Hong Kong's Tsz Him Chan in quick succession to bring play down to the final nine.

The first three hands of the final table saw three speedy eliminations in back-to-back-to-back hands; the UK's Asa Smith fell victim to Natural8 Ambassador Yu-Chung Chang after his pocket eights lost a flip to ace-king, Chan was clipped by Japan's Nozomu Shimizu after running ace-king into kings before Chang claimed a second scalp and outdrew Calvin Lee's pocket queens with ace-queen.

It was Shimizu who occupied the top spot after all that carnage. However, Thailand's Thanisorn Saelor soon took his turn as tournament top dog after sending Hong Kong's Anson Tsang to the rail in sixth place.

Petakovic had to dig deep into his bag of tournament tricks to battle back and clinch the title, and he did so with aplomb, crippling Hong Kong's Wing Po Liu to retake the lead, with Shimizu administering the coup de grace.

The Serbian then put the hammer down to hoover up over 70 percent of the chips in play, before Shimizu sent Chang and Saelor to the rail in fourth and third place respectively to bring play two-handed.

Heads-up was an epic eighty-minute battle spanning three levels, and while Petakovic came into the confrontation with a three-to-two chip lead, Shimizu quickly turned things around and pulled ahead with a six-to-one lead, before two timely double-ups saw the Serb win a decisive hand that left the Japanese player on life support and saw Petakovic with one hand on the trophy.

In the final hand, Shimizu was forced to get the last of his chips in with eight-three offsuit with Petakovic pressuring with king-jack. A jack on the turn sealed the deal, granting the Serbian his first victory on Asian soil and his maiden APT title victory.
