Scott Margereson leads the pack heading into Day 2 of the PHP 600,000 (~USD $10,300) APT Super High Roller. The British pro surged to the top of the counts after winning a massive pot against Marius Gierse late on Day 1, putting him in prime position for a deep run.

A total of 81 entries (58 unique) generated a prize pool of PHP 44,784,900 (~USD 769,500), with the eventual champion set to take home a top prize of PHP 12,316,900 (~USD $211,631).

Margereson accumulated 2,850,000 chips over the sixteen 40-minute levels played. Notably, this Super High Roller marks his first-ever APT cash, and a win here would guarantee him a top-five career score.

Chasing Margereson in second place is Lithuanian pro Rokas Asipauskas, who bagged 2,145,000 chips. Throughout the day, Asipauskas steadily built his stack, never losing any massive pots.

Close behind him is hometown hero John Matsuda, who sits in third place with 1,920,000 chips. Other notable names advancing to Day 2 include Punnat Punsri (1,835,000), Charlie Chiu (1,710,000), the reigning Manila Super High Roller champion William Teoh (1,370,000), and Tobias Schwecht (1,050,000).

With only a handful of hands left to play on Day 1, highstakes regular Marius Gierse got it all-in against Scott Magereson, who four-bet him in early-position. William Teoh cold called Gierse's three-bet in between, but got out of the way, after Gierse moved all-in.

A Nine Is Good Enough for Matsuda

Marius Gierse opened the hijack to 50,000 and John Matsuda three-bet to 140,000 from the button. William Teoh called in the big blind, and Gierse got out of the way.

The two saw a flop come down 3 7 T . Teoh checked it to Matsuda, who led out for 200,000. Teoh dropped in a call.

The 9 fell on the turn and the action went check-check.

The 7 hit on the river, where Matsuda fired out 400,000 and Teoh called after thinking for a long time.

Teoh tabled A 3 for a flopped pair of threes but it couldn’t best a higher pair of nines from Matsuda’s A 9 .

Matsuda secured the sizable pot.

The action was picked up on the flop with a board showing 9 7 5 and around 360,000 chips in the middle.

Jonh Matsuda checked it from the big blind, and William Teoh checked from the hijack.

The A fell on the turn, and Matsuda led out for 150,000 and it was enough to secure the pot.

Chiu's Big Slick Scores

I-Chun Chiu made it 40,000 to go from the cutoff, and Rokas Asipauskas three-bet to 160,000 in the small blind. Chiu made a four-bet of 320,000 and Asipauskas then shoved all in for around 2,600,000. Chiu called off his chips around 1,040,000.

It was classic coin flip, the dealer made things interesting with a flop of 2 J 3 , improving Chiu's hand to the flopped nut flush, while Asipauskas hit top set.

Asipauskas need to pair the board but the board ran out 8 T , shipping the sizable pot to Chiu.

Teoh's Image Pays Off Against Magsakay

Local hero Vamerdino Magsakay opened from middle-position and got called by William Teoh next to him.

The flop came down J 9 6 and the open raiser checked to Teoh who bet out 55,000 which was called quickly.

The turn brought the 8 .

After Magsakay checked again Teoh continued to fire, this time for 155,000. The Filipino once again threw in the calling chips.

The river came the board pairing 6 , and Teoh put Magsakay to the ultimate test by putting him all-in for the Filipino's 330,000 chips.

After a couple of minutes of deliberation time, Magsakay decided not to believe the aggressive Teoh.

A Q hit on the river and Margereson shoved all in for around 2,000,000. After thinking for a while, Gierse tossed his cards into the muck.
