Day 4 of the APT Jeju Main Event has come to a close here at LES A Casino in Jeju Shinhwa World after another thrilling day of poker.

Just 47 players from the original field of 1,375 entries (696 unique players) returned to the felt this morning when action kicked back off. While each player had already guaranteed themselves at least KRW 9,260,000 (~USD 6,910), their sights were firmly set on a laddering up the payouts, and locking up more of the KRW3,207,600,000 (~USD 2,393,730) total prize pool.

Now, only eight remain, and the top prize still hangs in the balance: the coveted APT Main Event Lion Trophy, the KRW 556,340,000 (~USD 415,180) top payout, and an APT Championship Main Event ticket worth ~USD 10,000.

Leading the charge is China’s Jianfeng Sun, who bagged 12,060,000 to take the chip lead.

Sun has been chasing the elusive APT Lion, only to see it repeatedly slip through his fingers. He finished runner-up in the recently concluded Mystery Bounty and, more significantly, was runner-up in the APT Jeju 2024 Main Event.

Now, with another deep run at the same venue and the biggest stack heading into the final table, Sun has put himself in position for another shot at the title.

Following him is Singapore’s Steve Ng, who finished the day with 9,050,000. Ng has also come close to APT Main Event glory before, finishing ninth at the APT Taipei 2024 Main Event.

Rounding out the top three is Ireland’s Toby Joyce, who bagged 8,790,000. The most experienced player among the final nine, Joyce already has a WSOP Online bracelet to his name.

Although this is his first appearance at an APT Main Event final table, he already knows what it takes to win an APT Lion, having taken down the High Roller Championship at APT Taipei Poker Classic 2025.

China’s Shuang Qiu and countryman Erdun Xu are also familiar with the pressure of an APT Main Event final table. Qiu made the final table at this very venue last year, while Xu reached the final table of the APT Jeju 2024 Main Event.

Highlights of the Day

With former finalists, proven champions and players still chasing their first APT Lion, the returning field who made it through to day 4 were set for a fierce battle.

Before “Shuffle Up and Deal”, one randomly selected table was given the chance to play for a USD 10,000 APT Championship (APTC) ticket in a game of Atomic Pineapple.

China’s Xiang Chen emerged victorious after enduring two runouts, winning the second round of action which went heads-up against the Netherlands’ Joris Michl, to secure his ticket.

Then it was time for the real battle.

It took roughly seven hours to go from 47 players to the final 16, with several big names seeing their tournament runs come to an end along the way.

Ma Kaihong.jpg Ma Kaihong

China’s Ma Kaihong, who had been the chip leader at the end of both Day 2 and Day 3, saw his stack steadily dwindle as the field narrowed. His decline opened the door for several players to climb the counts.

He wasn't the only one to suffer as Michl saw a particularly brutal elimination after flopping top pair but failed to hold against China’s Shuang Qiu pocket queens which then rivered the set and sent Michl to the rail.

As the chips continued to change hands, Joyce also moved up the leaderboard after cracking Sun’s pocket queens with ace-ten suited. Sun, however, continued his upward trajectory and reclaimed the momentum, eventually pushing beyond the 10-million mark.

Yixuan Ding.JPG Yixuan Ding

One of the most pivotal hands of the day came with the elimination of China's Yixuan Ding in seventeenth place. Sun sent Ding to the rail, establishing himself as the clear chip leader with just 16 players remaining.

Journey to the Final Table

The succession of eliminations from 16 players, to the final table, happened relatively quickly. It took just under three hours for the final table line-up to be set.

Having spun down to just three big blinds, Bin Wu got his final chips into the pot against Shuang Qiu and Weitao Chen in the blinds. Both non-all in players checked their hands down, with Qiu pair of eights enough to beat Wu’s ace-seven suited, sending him out in sixteenth place.

Singapore’s Kim Wah Chiu followed shortly after, finding himself all-in against Joyce’s pocket queens. Unable to crack the queens, Chiu headed to the payout counter in fifteenth place.

After being crippled in a previous hand, Weitao Chen made his move against fellow Chinese player Erdun Xu. Xu’s pocket sevens held against Chen’s queen-nine offsuit, sending Chen to the rail in fourteenth place.

Calvin Lau.JPG Calvin Lau

With the average stack getting shorter, Hong Kong’s Calvin Lau committed his chips with ace-six suited but found himself dominated by China’s Weimin Chen, who held ace-queen. Unable to connect with the board, Lau finished in thirteenth place.

American Christian Harder called Singaporean Kwang Chung Tan’s all-in with king-jack, unaware that he was running into Tan’s pocket kings. With no help from the board, Harder was eliminated in twelfth place.

Vietnam’s Tran Anh Tuan Le was then in deep trouble when his ace-five couldn't catch up against chip leader Sun’s queen-jack. Sun flopped trips and held through the river, sending Le out in eleventh place.

The last hand of the night saw Yi Heng Luo forced all in, whilst Sun and Tan continued to battle in a larger side-pot. Tan was dealt pocket eights and flopped a set while Sun had flopped top pair and turned two pair. A brick river gave Tan the pot and Luo had no sweat throghout, starting and ending the hand with ace-high.

The double knockout of Luo in tenth and Sun in ninth place brought Day 4 to a dramatic close, with the final eight players now set to continue to battle for the 2026 APT Jeju Main Event title.

Shuang Qiu open-jammed from under the gun, putting his last 2,700,000 chips at risk, and action folded to Weimin Chen.

There was talk of more all-in action on the other, non feature table, but Chen still made the call.

The action went to the outer table first as it was hand-for-hand on the final table bubble, and when that action had closed, Qui got to see his fate.

Weimin Chen: K K

Qiu was behind when the cards were flipped but the ace in the window gave him some comfort.

After seeing the 5 7 A flop, Qiu was smiling and he watched the J turn and T river complete the board, locking up a bag and a seat at the final table here in the 2026 Jeju Main Event.

After a double up in the big blind, Yi Heng Luo was forced all-in in the small blind for 45,000. Luo was encouraging Steve Ng under the gun to just limp to end his misery. Ng obliged but was surprised that Kwang Chung Tan on the button limped as well.

Big blind Changliang Sun checked his option and all four players waited to see the flop.

The dealer fanned out T 8 5 . Instead of the expected check-down, Tan fired 650,000 prompting Sun to shove all-in for 1,700,000. Ng got out of the way leaving all three players to head to showdown.

Changliang Sun: T 6

Kwang Chung Tan: 8 8

Sun caught top pair against Tan's set. Luo, on the other hand, prepared to leave when the 6 fell on the turn giving Sun a two-pair, Luo a chance to improve to a straight, and Tan a major sweat.

The river 2 ended Tan's anxiety by securing his victory and sending both Luo and Sun to hit the rails.

Play was underway and action was with Yi Heng Luo in the tank after button Steven Ng replied to his 1,900,000 bet with an all-in shove for 4,575,000. Before his time finished, Luo, who had Ng covered by a hairline made the call.

Steven Ng: A Q

Yi Heng Luo: 3 3

Luo was hoping his three's would hold but the flop came 7 Q A pushing Ng ahead with a two-pair. No help came on the 6 turn. Just to cement his victory, an A fell on the river improving Ng's hand to a full house.

Ng scooped the massive pot, leaving Luo with only crumbs.

The dealer fanned the J 7 8 flop and Wan checked. Luo placed a 200,000 continuation-bet, and after taking a little time, Wan check-shoved for 2,265,000.

Luo checked his cards and did a little accounting before giving an approving nod and mucking.
