John “Bert” Perry

Zodiac Classic - Day 1 has concluded with Australia’s John “Bert” Perry sitting atop the leaderboard after amassing an impressive 260,300 chips throughout the day. With a buy-in of VND 50,000,000, today’s action saw 89 entries (67 unique), and only 48 survivors managed to bag their chips and advance to Day 2.

Perry, nearing the 1.5 million milestone in live earnings, maintained his momentum throughout Day 1. His impressive run included an early elimination when his bullets bested Sergius Santos’ cowboys by improving to a set, and he further bolstered his stack by scooping a sizable pot with six-four against Bui Ngoc Long in the second-to-last level.

Le Thong Su holds the second-highest stack, having staged an impressive comeback after being left with only sixteen chips. He finished the day with a substantial 202,100. APT regular Junqiang Lyu also ended strong, amassing a healthy stack of 197,800.

Win Meng Tan

Win Meng Tan, the recent APT Super High Roller champion, closed the day with 106,400 chips after chipping up against **Quang Khiem Nguyen** with pocket nines.

The Naing (86,100), champion of the APT Summer Series Da Nang PLO, and Adrien Favre(76,900 ), the APT Taipei Hyper Turbo champion, who scored a double-up with pocket tens against Peng Chen, both bagged up and advanced to Day 2.

Other notables advancing to Day 2 include APT titleholder Nevan Chang (72,500 chips), Gab Yong Kim (34,500), Peter Kiem (39,900), William Jia (32,000), and the 2024 APT Taipei Women’s Event Champion Jennifer Cassell (29,800).

Natalia Rozova raised to 1,800 from middle position only to be jammed by Nguyen Huu Dung for 15,200 from the hijack. Hye Keun Park dropped in a call and Rozova got out of the way.

Park held the lead with his Hockey Sticks. Soon the dealer delivered a dry runout of 3 J 8 6 J , sealing the fate of Dung’s elimination at the last level of Day 1.

John Perry

On the flop of 5 3 A , there were around 8,500 chips in the middle when Chung Yin Chau checked the action from the big blind to John Perry in middle position, who bet 2,000. Bui Ngoc Long and Chau stuck around.

The 6 came on the turn, and three players checked through to see a board-pairing 6 hit on the river.

Chau checked, and Perry led out for 7,000. Only Long dropped in a call.

Perry tabled trip sixes with 6 4 , leaving Long no choice but to concede the pot.

Dmitrii Belikov raised to 1,600 from the small blind, and Youkan Li three-bet to 2,400 from the big blind, which Belikov called.

On the flop of K A 5 , Belikov check-called after Li continued with a bet of 2,000.

The 7 landed on the turn, where both players checked through.

The river carried out Q , and the action went check-check.

Belikov tabled a flopped pair of kings with K 9 , leaving Li no choice but to throw his cards into the muck.

Quang Nguyen

Quang Nguyen opened the button, just to get three-bet from his fellow countryman Bui Truong from the big-blind. Nguyen called and the flop came down Q 8 7 . Truong continued with a 4,500, which Nguyen called.

The turn brought the 3 which enticed Truong to slow down and check. Nguyen bet 5,500, which Truong called.

The 5 river was checked by both players and Nguyen won the pot with 9 8 against Truong's A K

Nguyen Linh opened from early-position and only Avneesh Munjal in the big-blind called.

On Q T 9 Linh continued with a 4,000 bet. Munjal called and the players saw the 7 appear on the turn.

After Munjal checked Linh continued his aggression with a 15,000 bet. After some deliberation, Munjal called.

The river brought the spicy K . Munjal checked and Linh moved all-in for 19,000. After a few seconds, Munjal threw in the chips to call.

Both players with a straight and flush, with Linh having the better of the latter.

Junqiang Lyu raised to 1,300 on the button and Youkan Li defended from the big blind.

On the flop of 4 9 Q , Li checked the action to Lyu, who bet 1,100, which Li called.

The 8 landed on the turn, where both players checked through to see the 7 come on the river.

Li led out for 3,500, this was enough to make Lyu toss his cards into the muck.

Sean Ooi opened the cutoff to 1,500 and received two callers, Tingrui Ge on the button and The Naing from the big blind.

A flop ran out 3 8 7 , bringing flush and straight possibilities, and three players checked through to see the 2 hit on the turn, where Naing led out for 1,800 and only Ge dropped in a call.

The river brought 7 , and both players decided to check to a free showdown.

Naing tabled two pair with T 3 , but it was no match for the two pair from Ge’s 4 4 , sailing the pot to Ge's way.

Adrien Favre

Peng Chen raised from the cutoff, and Adrien Favre three-bet to 1,500 on the button only to be faced with a four-bet to 45,500 from Chen. Favre then shoved all in and Chen snap-called to put his opponent at risk.

Favre picked up the lead with pocket tens on the flop of 9 9 K , improving both to two pair but Chen’s snowmen was still not enough. The dry runout came J 6 , securing a much-needed double up for Favre.
