APT Media Coordinator Matthew Ooi sat down with Mark Furniss, who made history this week by becoming the first player to reach ten APT mixed-game titles. Despite the magnitude of the milestone, Furniss remained characteristically grounded. “I’m very happy,” he said. “Last year I won eight in one year, and that felt pretty good. Then there were four of us on nine trophies, so I just wanted to be the first to hit ten.”
For Furniss, the APT has been more than just a proving ground — it has been the backdrop to some of the most defining chapters of his personal life. His relationship with his now-wife began at APT Jeju, where a chance meeting during the festival marked the start of their journey together. They later got engaged at APT Taiwan, surrounded by close friends from the circuit, and eventually tied the knot just before APT Manila.

Furniss also praised the series across the board — from the world-class dealers and floor staff to the strong numbers and steadily growing interest in mixed formats. Looking ahead, Furniss believes mixed games will only continue to grow on the APT calendar. With ten titles now behind him, he’s already setting his sights on the next benchmark: “I’ll start with fifteen,” he said. “Fifteen would be good. Twenty’s a long way off.”

At the side events, Day 1 of Event #80: High Roller - Ultra Stack saw the majority of the day’s attendees pile in, with the tournament gathering a hefty 480 entries. Irishman Ryan Plant leads the pack, along with several popular names like poker vlogger Frank Joseph Cucchiara, John Perry, Jeremy Chan, and Martin Finger still in the mix.
