Main Event Closing in on Record; South Korea's Jun Young Park Tops Flight B

HANOI, VIETNAM 2023, December 5, 2023 – The APT Hanoi Billions 2023 is on the brink of breaking its most impressive record yet, with Flight B of the VND 36M APT Main Event drawing 535 entries (442 unique).

Playing December 4-9 at the iconic Hanoi National Convention Center (NCC) in partnership with Vietnam Series of Poker (VSOP), the conclusion of the second of the Main Event's four starting flights sees the total number of entries currently sitting at 1,418 with VND 44.5BN (~USD $1.8M) in the prize pool.

With just 17 more entries needed to beat APT Taipei's 1,434, a new record is a certainty, which begs the question – just how big will the field get?

A total of 211 players weathered the Flight B maelstrom to join the 246 Flight A survivors, with South Korea's Jun Young Park topping the chip counts.

Park bagged up a stack of 361,100, which puts him fourth in the overall pecking order, although that could well change by the time the two remaining Main Event flights play out.

Vietnam's Nguyen Trung Quan showcased some of the skills that saw him claim the APT Phu Quoc Super High Roller title back in March to bag the second-largest stack of 320,700.

Former Main Event champion Hernan Villa, fresh from his victory in Event #28: NL Hold'em - Freezeout, was the only other player to crack the 300K mark, bagging the third largest stack of 305,300, with the top ten stacks as follows:

Aside from Villa, other former champions in the field included Hong Kong's Dicky Tsang, Vietnam's Dinh Duc Linh, Singapore's Feng Zhao, and compatriot Shixiang Khoo. Of these, only Tsang (52,300) was able to go the distance.

Other notables to make it included two-time bracelet winner Denis Strebkov (221,000), France's Anthony Cierco (201,900), Hong Kong's Alan Pun (110,600), Australia's Joshua McCully (25,500), and APT regular Vincent Li (18,000).

The Philippines' Gerardo Lubas was also in action, and the two-time Main Event runner-up will be hoping to go one better this time around after finishing play on a stack of 84,100.

With two more starting flights left, there are still opportunities for those unsuccessful in their endeavors to win their way through.

Flight C gets underway at 11am local time on Wednesday, December 6, boasting 30-minute levels for the first six, increasing to 40-minutes for the final four. Flight D follows at 5pm, consisting of ten slightly faster 30-minute levels.

Single Day High Roller Record Broken Twice in Same Series as SDHR Mystery Bounty Draws Largest-Ever Field; Indonesia's Jhon Hendri Leads Final Six

Indonesia's Jhon Hendri is gunning for his first APT title in the tour's largest-ever single day high roller

As the Main Event closes in on a record set back in April, the VND 50M Event #39: Single Day High Roller - Mystery Bounty - 8 Max (20M Bounty) soundly beat a record set just two days prior.

The tournament attracted a sizable 306 entries (233 unique) to eclipse the record for the largest-ever APT Single Day High Roller field set in Event #18.

In addition to the VND 7,236,900,000 (~$297,550) prize pool, the exciting Mystery Bounty part of the format kicked in when the field dropped down to 78, with a further VND 6,120,000,000 (~$251,340) in the bounty pool and the top 39 places paid.

The top three bounties jointly total VND 1.8BN (~$82,120), with biggest bounty awarding a sizable VND 1BN (~$41,060) prize, with the next two coming in at VND 500M (~$20,530), and VND 300M (~$12,320).

Once again, an extra day was added to accommodate the size of the field, and just six players remain in contention for the VND 1,451,050,000 (~$59,620) top prize.

It is Indonesia's Jhon Hendri who leads the final six players, sitting atop the leaderboard with a stack of 9,520,000 – valued at 38 big blinds when play resumes at 12pm on Wednesday, December 6.

China's Chunhui Ji is Hendri's next closest rival, returning with 5,765,000 in chips (23BB), with the other four remaining players on stacks of 4M or less, with Australia's Dylan Foster bringing in the short stack of 2,750,000 (11BB).

Thailand's Phakwalan Chonwiran Wins Maiden Tournament Title in Event #41: Women's Event

Thailand's Phakwalan Chonwiran won her maiden live tournament title in the Event #41: Women's Event

The VND 5M Event #41: Women's Event saw 107 entries (79 unique) in action, setting a new APT country record for the event.

These ladies of poker fought it out at the felt over twenty-seven 20-minute levels for a share of the VND 467,055,000 (~$19,210) prize pool.

It was Thailand's Phakwalan Chonwiran who took it down, claiming her maiden live tournament title and the VND 119,325,000 (~$4,900) top prize, defeating Australia's Tanja Vujanic heads-up.

Vujanic received a VND 82,200,000 (~$3,380) payday for her runner-up finish, with Japan's Sachiko Uchihara completing the winner's triumvirate and collecting VND 53,940,000 (~$2,215) for third.

China's Jinqi Wang Scores Super Victory in Event #44: Turbo - Super Hold'em

China's Jinqi Wang is another newly minted APT champion with his Event #44: Turbo - Super Hold'em victory

One of the wilder No Limit variations on the schedule, the VND 8M Event #44: Turbo - Super Hold'em (3 Hole Cards, Use 0,1,2,3 Cards) drew 123 entries (101 unique) – setting a new APT country record for the event.

These action junkies duked it out over twenty-two turbo-charged 15-minute levels, all looking to claim their slice of the VND 859,032,000 (~$35,315) prize pool.

It was China's Jinqi Wang who earned the accolades, besting Japan's Hirotoshi Fukumaru heads-up to claim the VND 199,199,800 (~$8,185) top prize and his maiden live tournament title.

Fukumaru, who was also on the hunt for a first title, had to settle for second-best and the VND 162,962,200 (~$6,690) on offer for second.

Vietnam's Huu Phong Phuong took bronze and a payout of VND 94,920,000 (~$3,890) for third.

India's Siddharth Jolly Earns Explosive Win in Event #46: Tick Tock BOOM!

India's Siddharth Jolly claimed his maiden live tournament title in Event #46: Tick Tock BOOM!

First introduced at the APT Incheon, the VND 5M Event #46: Tick Tock BOOM! (Levels Decrease Every Hour 15/10/5/2) does just what it says on the tin, with the level length decreasing every hour until it reaches the 2-minute threshold and the table explodes into action.

It was India's Siddharth Jolly who blew the opposition away, defeating a 139-strong field(113 unique) to claim the lion's share of the VND 606,735,000 (~$24,925) prize pool.

Jolly bested compatriot Sam Anand to take the VND 145,615,000 (~$5,980) top prize, scoring his maiden live tournament title in the process.

Anand took a payout of VND 98,900,000 (~$4,060) for his runner-up finish, with the UK's Jun Li rounding out the podium and taking VND 65,220,000 (~$2,680) for third place.

Japan's Shuto Nakagawa claimed his maiden APT title in Event #47: Super Hyper Turbo

The last of the evening's tournaments to play out was the VND 2M Event #47: Super Hyper Turbo, which drew a 193-strong field (164 unique).

The players battled over thirty turbo-charged 5-minute levels for a share of the VND 336,978,000 (~$13,835) prize pool.

It was Japan's Shuto Nakagawa who claimed the VND 74,658,000 (~$3,065) top prize, defeating Vietnam's Hua Quang Thinh heads-up to earn his maiden APT title and first tournament cash prize, with all his prior results coming inside of Japan for $0.

Thinh collected VND 50,380,000 (~$2,070) for his runner-up finish, with compatriot Mai Xuan Xon taking bronze and a payout of VND 34,680,000 (~$1,425).

Japan's Keita Yamashiro Claims Second APT Draw Title in Event #37: Limit Triple Draw Mix

Japan's Keita Yamashiro claimed his second APT draw poker title in Event #37: Limit Triple Draw Mix

The second of the series scheduled Limit Triple Draw Mix tournaments – the VND 5M #37: Limit Triple Draw Mix (A-5, 2-7, Badugi) – saw 36 players (33 unique) in action, all hoping to draw a share of the VND 157,140,000 (~$6,460) prize pool.

Proving his maiden APT No Limit 2-7 Single Draw Turbo title win back during August's APT Incheon was no fluke, it was Japan's Keita Yamashiro the man to claim the accolades.

Yamashiro bested the USA's David Wortham heads-up to take the VND 58,140,000 (~$2,390) top prize, claiming his second APT title in the process.

Wortham came within touching distance of claiming his maiden APT title back during the same festival in this very same event, but was once again denied and had to settle for the VND 40,070,000 (~$1,645) on offer for second.

Thailand's Thanpisit Manomaiphibul rounded out the winner's podium, collecting VND 25,540,000 (~$1,050) for third place.

Japan's Dai Ishibashi claimed his maiden live tournament title in the inaugural Event #40 PL Omaha Hi-Lo Mix

One of the new additions to the APT schedule, the VND 6M Event #40: PL Omaha Hi-Lo Mix - 4 Card, 5 Card, 6 Card - 7 Max drew 57 entries (46 unique) on its debut.

These Omaha junkies battled over twenty-five 25-minute levels to earn a share of the **VND 298,566,000 (~$12,280) prize pool.

It was Japan's Dai Ishibashi who claimed the honor of becoming the APT's inaugural PL Omaha Hi-Lo Mix champion, defeating Australia's Mark Furniss heads-up to take the VND 89,566,000 (~$3,675) top prize and his maiden live tournament title.

Furniss took VND 64,790,000 (~$2,660) for his runner-up finish, with Israel's Amir Namatinia rounding out the podium, taking VND 41,800,000 (~$1,720) for third.
