The APT Kickoff 2019 Vietnam – MAIN EVENT Day 1B attracted a much larger field than the previous day with 152 bumping elbows at the Pro Poker Club. By the end of the scheduled 9 rounds, only 63 survived. The man on top was a very familiar face, Vietnamese pro Quang Nguyen with 164,000 in chips.
Last time the APT was here, Quang finished runner-up at the Main Event to Japan’s Tetsuya Tsuchikawa in a sick set over set. Tonight, Quang pulled in a couple of late pots during the last hands called to bag the lead. He currently sets the pace for the last entry day to come.
Had Quang not won the last hands, Duy Ho would have earned the top spot with his 135,500 stack.
Rounding out the three leaders was Australia’s Jaysen De San Miguel with 133,000.
Among the notable players also through in this heat were: Lim Yohwan, Vi Khoa, Alex Lee, Le Ngoc Khanh, Nguyen Hoang Bach, and Jae Wook Shin. We’ve got the chip counts for you below. For those still looking to jump in this event, there is one entry day left. Day 1C takes place on Saturday, January 12 at 1pm. There are currently 257 entries with 105 players through to Day 2.
MAIN EVENT Day 1C – Last entry day!
The Main Event has continuously been hailed as one of the best tournaments in the region. The structure is deep with blinds increasing at a slow 60 minute pace. Opening blinds are at 25/50, starting stack at 25,000. The APT utilizes the Ante Big Blind format.
- The “ANTE BB” format utilizes the ante first rule before the big blind. This rule applies in the event that the big blind player cannot cover the full amount of both the ANTE and BB.
- The “ANTE BB” structure remains the same regardless of the number of players at a table
The Main Event runs a course of six days from January 10 to 15. Buy-in is VND 22,000,000 with unlimited re-entries. Registration closes on the first deal of Day 2. Cards in the air daily at 1pm local time.

Day 1B: Friday, January 11 – play 9 levels (63 out of 152 advanced)
Day 1C: Saturday, January 12 – play 9 levels
Day 2: Sunday, January 13 – play 8 levels

New Pay Table for Featured Events
Due to feedback from players, we’ve adjusted the pay table only for the featured events – Main Event and Championships Event. As stated in our previous post,
“Players have argued that the “dream of winning big” was lost with the “1 in 6” scheme. Therefore, the featured events will now see a payout structure of 10% of the field with bigger prizes awarded to the top 3 places. As for the side events, which includes the High Rollers events, these will maintain the “1 in 6” payout.”
Two years ago, the APT introduced the Bubble Protection. This is a type of insurance for players on the bubble round. If a protected player falls on the bubble, then that player will receive his/her buy-in back in the form of APT tournament credits. To be eligible, all you need to do is follow these three simple steps:
- Draw for your seat before starting time
- Have your chips put into play before the first hand is dealt for each starting day
- For re-entry players, if you have already met the qualifications for Bubble Protection, you will maintain that status only on a same day re-entry.
- For re-entry players wanting Bubble Protection on the next starting day, you will have to repeat the steps above. This also applies to players going for multiple stacks.
- Tournament credits are only valid for one (1) year.
