- **APT Kickoff (VND 1BN/~USD $40K GTD)**: VND 7,000,000 (~USD $300) Buy-in, Running May 26-27
The action gets underway at 12pm local time on Friday, May 26 with the two opening flights of the VND 7,000,000 (~USD $300) APT Kickoff (VND 1BN/~USD $40K GTD), with the tournament concluding on Saturday, May 27. Players receive a 30,000 starting stack and will compete over 30-minute levels (20-minutes on Flight B) to claim the first title on offer for the festival. The last APT Kickoff at APT Taipei 2023 was the largest in the tour’s 15-year history, drawing 751 entries and generating a TWD $6.55M (~USD $213K) prize pool, with Taiwan’s Chia Yun Wu walking away with a TWD $1.25 million (~USD $41K) top prize. February’s APT Hanoi Kickoff drew 452 entries and generated a VND 3.5 billion (USD $147K) prize pool, with Vietnam’s Phan Minh Duc taking a VND 520.52 million (~USD $22.38K) top prize.

- **Mystery Bounty Hunter Sponsored by Natural8 (VND 1.5BN/~USD $65K GTD)**: VND 10,000,000 (~USD $430) Buy-in, Running May 27-28
The VND 10,000,000 (~USD $430) Mystery Bounty Hunter Sponsored by Natural8 Natural8 (VND 1.5BN/~USD $65K GTD) boasts two stating flights; running Saturday, May 27 at 12pm and 6pm local time with the tournament concluding on Sunday, May 28. The starting stack is 30,000 with 30-minute level length (20-minutes on Flight B). The previous Mystery Bounty at the APT Taipei 2023 broke the record for largest field with 670 entries competing for a TWD $9.35 million (USD $304K) prize pool (including TWD $3.21M6 in bounties), while the Mystery Bounty at APT Hanoi 2023 attracted 419 entries and generated a VND 3.65 billion (~USD $157K) prize pool, including VND 1.257 billion in bounties.

- **APT Super High Roller 8-Max (VND 2BN/~USD $86K GTD)**: VND 120,000,000 (~USD $5,150) Buy-in, Running May 27-28
Catering to those with bigger bankrolls, APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam 2023 offers nine high roller events, with the first of these – the VND 120,000,000 (~USD $5,150) APT Super High Roller 8-Max (VND 2BN/~USD $86K GTD) – running concurrently with the Mystery Bounty Hunter. The tournament boasts a 250,000-chip starting stack, with 40-minute levels. A previous similarly priced High Roller event in Hanoi drew 46 entries and featured some of the cream of the Asian poker scene; while player numbers are lower than the more standard buy-ins, both the prize pools and skill levels on display are some of the highest on offer, with the tournament promising some scintillating live poker action. 

- **Sunday Super Stack (VND 1BN/~USD $43K GTD)**: VND 7,000,000 (~USD $300) Buy-in, Running May 28
A recent addition to the APT schedule, the Sunday Super Stack plays out in day – perfect for those weekend poker warriors looking to test their mettle. The VND 7,000,000 (~USD $300) Sunday Super Stack (VND 1BN/~USD $43K GTD) boasts a 100,000-chip starting stack and players compete over 25-minute levels. The previous iteration of the Sunday Super Stack – the Sunday Special – that ran back in February’s APT Hanoi 2023 drew a 285-strong field with China’s Yucheng Xiao taking the VND 332.5M (~USD $14K) top prize. 

- **APT Main Event (VND 12BN/~USD $500K GTD)**: VND 35,000,000 (~USD $1,500) Buy-in, Running May 29-June 3
Of course, the biggest draw will be the VND 35,000,000 (~USD $1,500) APT Main Event (VND 12BN/~USD $500K GTD), which comprises four opening flights running Monday, May 29 to Wednesday, May 31, concluding on Saturday June 3. Players start with a 40,000-chip stack, with level length varying. Flight A boasts the longest level length of 60-minutes, with Flight B (45-minutes) and Flights C & D (30-minutes) speeding up the action. Level length will be 60-minutes from Day 2 onwards. The previous APT Hanoi 2023 **Main Event** saw 654 entries compete for a VND 15.85 billion (~USD $666K) prize pool, with Vietnam’s Hai Nam Hoang winning the VND 2.79 billion (~USD $119K) top prize. 

- **Double Stack (VND 1.5BN/~USD $65K GTD)**: VND 10,000,000 (~USD $430) Buy-in, Running June 2-3
Formerly branded the Monster Stack, the VND 10,000,000 (~USD $430) Double Stack (VND 1.5BN/~USD $65K GTD) has two starting flights both running on Friday, June 2, with the tournament concluding on Saturday, June 3. Players start with a 60,000-chip stack with Flight A boasting 30-minute level length (20-minutes on Flight B) with the two flights getting underway at 12pm and 6pm local time respectively. The previous APT Hanoi 2023 Monster Stack saw 330 entries compete for a VND 3.2 billion prize pool (~USD $135K) with Vietnam’s Hoan Cong Le claiming the VND 623.81 million (~USD $16K) top prize. 

- **Mini Main Event (VND 1BN/~USD $43K GTD)**: VND 8,000,000 (~USD $350) Buy-in, Running June 3-4 
Boasting almost the exact same structure of the Main Event with a slightly lower buy-in of VND 8,000,000 (~USD $350), the Mini Main Event (VND 1BN/~USD $43K GTD) is always a popular draw and we expect the APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam 2023 to be no exception. Players start with a 40,000-chip stack with Flight A boasting 30-minute level length (20 minutes for Flight B). First introduced at the recent APT Hanoi, the Mini Main Event attracted 250 entries on its Vietnamese debut, who competed for a VND 1.94 billion (~USD $81,757) prize pool with Hong Kong’s Kelvin Tan claiming the VND 389 million (~USD $16,338) top prize. 

- **APT High Roller (4BN/~USD $172K GTD)**: VND 80,000,000 (~USD $3,500) Buy-in, Running June 3-4
Last, but by no means least, is the VND 80,000,000 (~USD $3,500) APT High Roller (4BN/~USD $172K GTD) which gets underway for Day 1 on Saturday, June 3 and concludes on Sunday, June 4. The previous APT High Roller at APT Hanoi 2023 saw an impressive 204 entrants compete for VND 9.89 billion (~USD $415.5K) prize pool with Latvia's **Aigars Plivcs** claiming his second APT High Roller title and the VND 2.19 billion (~USD $92K) top prize.

Playing out at the tournament tables of the [Grand Loyal Poker Club](https://www.facebook.com/GrandLoyal/) – located on the second and third floors of the luxurious [Grand Vista Hanoi Hotel](https://www.grandvistahanoi.com/) – Flight B of the **Main Event** drew 202 entries (159 unique), bringing the total field up to 345 and the prize pool up to VND 10,541,475,000 – with Flights C & D still left to play out.

It was Australia's **Leo Kamiya** the man to bag biggest after the ten 45-minute levels played out. Kamiya – who claimed his maiden APT title at the recent APT Taipei – finished atop the counts with a stack of 295,000.

Vietnam's **Viet Van Nguyen** was not far behind, concluding play with 257,200 in chips, with Malaysia's **Hsien Ren Koh** finishing with the third largest stack of 239,700.

Russia's **Fedor Dedelov** (212,700), and Vietnam's **Quang Huy Dinh** (205,500) rounded out the top five, with **India's Kunal Patni** (193,100) also making a top ten stack:

A total of 91 players successfully circumnavigated the tournament minefield, with other notables to make it through including India's **Zarvan Tumboli** (131,300), Malaysia's **Shung Er Sua** (99,800), Australia's **Anton Lu** (86,200), the Philippines' **David Erquiaga** (83,300), and former Main Event champion **Feng Zhao** (39,300).

Reigning APT Incheon Main Event champion **Farhad Aghayev** also made the cut, albeit as one of the shortest stacks with 32,500.

The 91 survivors will unite with the 49 Flight A survivors for Day 2 on Thursday, June 1.

With two more starting flights left to play out, there are still opportunities for those unsuccessful in their endeavors to win their way through.

The final two starting Flights C & D – both boasting 30-minute levels – get underway on Wednesday, May 31 at 12pm and 6pm respectively.

## Australia's Alan Pham Crushes Richest-ever Superstar Challenge

Australia's Alan Pham won the richest-ever Superstar Challenge to claim his maiden APT title

While the action was playing out in Flight B of the Main Event, some of the Asia-Pacific's best were doing battle in the VND 150,000,000 **Event #21 Superstar Challenge**.

Boasting the biggest buy-in out of the 43-event schedule – coming in at ~USD $6,400 – the tournament attracted the cream of the Asian poker scene.

A total of 43 entries (35 unique) fought it out at the felt, making it the second largest Superstar Challenge in terms of player numbers, and the **richest in terms of prize pool – boasting a VND 5,839,400,000 (~USD $248,700) purse**.

Notables in the running included two-time APT Main Event champion **Lester Edoc**, South Korea's #2 ranked tournament player **Gab Yong Kim**, bracelet winners **Alex Lindop**, and **Bold**Abhinav Iyer, Event #16 Single Day High Roller champion **Jun Hao Wu**, and Australia's **Josh Mccully** to name but a few.

It took twenty-two 30-minute levels to crown a champion, with Australia's **Alan Pham** the man to achieve superstar status.

Pham came into the nine-handed final table with a lead he would not relinquish after finding himself in the dream spot of holding pocket aces against two players holding pocket kings, with that monster pot shooting him to the top of the chip counts.

The final table was a lightning-fast affair that was all wrapped up in an hour, with the Aussie crushing all opposition – eliminating five of the final nine players on his way to claiming his maiden tournament title.

Heads-up was over in five hands, with Pham defeating **Quan Qiu** to claim the **VND 1,985,390,000 (~USD $84,640 top prize**.

Qiu collected VND 1,372,260,000 (~USD $58,500) for his runner-up finish, with compatriot _Yingrui Ge_ rounding out the winner's podium and taking VND 875,910,000 (~USD $37,340) for third.

It proved to be a stellar day at the poker tables for the Antipodeans, with New Zealand's **Daniel Francis** claiming his maiden APT title in the VND 10,000,000 **Event #22 Freezeout**.

The action kicked off at 1pm local time, with the tournament attracting a 121-strong field, who fought it out at the felt for a **VND 1,056,330,000 (~USD $45,030) prize pool**.

It took twenty-seven 25-minute levels for Francis to take the trophy, title and a **top prize of VND 228,235,000 (~USD $9,800)** after cutting an ICM chip chop deal with heads-up opponent **Haiyang Yang**, with the Chinese player locking up VND 217,135,000 (~USD $9,300) for his second place finish.

France's **Adrien Tantaro** took bronze and VND 116,720,000 (~USD $5,000) for third place.

The VND 12,000,000 **Event #19: NLH - Short Deck - Turbo - 6 Max** played out in the early hours of Tuesday morning and attracted a 34-strong field (22 unique).

Short deck events are always action-packed, and with **VND 356,184,000 (~USD $15,240) in the prize pool** and a coveted APT golden baby lion side event trophy on the line, this one was no exception, with the tournament wrapped up in twenty-one 15-minute levels.

It was Japan's **Satoshi Kuriga** the man to prove his Short Deck credentials, defeating Australia's **Armon Van Wijk** heads-up to claim a **top prize of VND 100,594,000 (~USD $4,315)** after the final three players cut a three-way deal.

This deal saw Van Wijk lock up VND 87,700,000 (~USD $3,730), with South Korea's **Seongsu Kong** receiving a guaranteed payout of VND 92,200,000 (~USD $3,930), with the trio then playing it out for the title, trophy and a further VND 10,694,000 in cash.

Kong crashed out in third place, and while **Van Wijk** – who was making his second final table appearence and third cash of the Series – came agonisingly close to claiming a second Series title, it was Kuriga the man to claim the crown and his fourth APT title.

Another of the APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam's side events to play out in the early hours of Tuesday morning was the VND 5,000,000 **Event #20 NLH / PLO - Turbo - 8 Max**.

This saw 29 entries (27 unique) showcase their mixed-game skills over seventeen 15-minute levels, with South Korea's **Hyunkyou Park** proving to be the tournament top dog and taking the **VND 46,835,000 (~USD $2,000) top prize**.

Park bested **Evgenii Chernyi** to claim his maiden APT title, with the Russian receiving VND 32,280,000 (~USD $1,400) for his runner-up finish.

It was another Russian player – **Konstantin Generalov** – who locked up third place, earning VND 20,570,000 (~USD $880) in the process.

Playing out at the tournament tables of the [Grand Loyal Poker Club](https://www.facebook.com/GrandLoyal/) – located on the second and third floors of the luxurious [Grand Vista Hanoi Hotel](https://www.grandvistahanoi.com/) – Flight A of the **Main Event** saw a field of 143 entries comprised of 113 unique players battle it out at the baize in an attempt to lock up a Day 2 seat.

A total of 49 players were successful in their endeavors, but while the rest of the field was building sandcastles, South Korea's #2 ranked tournament player **Gab Yong Kim** was constructing a veritable chip fortress.

Kim put on a dominating display of power poker over the ten 60-minute levels to conclude play with a sizable stack of 416,300 – over 100K more than next closest rival **Yingrui Ge** (308,600).

While Vietnam's **Do Tien Vu** (265,800), the UK's **Alex Lindop** (237,000), and New Zealand's **Daniel Francis** (229,100) all finished with respectable stacks, none came close to catching Kim.

The South Korean played some standout poker, and was aided in his rise to the top after spiking a set of kings against Jhon Hendri's pocket aces on the last level played.

Kim got all the chips in on a king-high flop, with his Indonesian opponent making the call and discovering the bad news. Hendri hit the rail, and Kim finished on a high, with the top ten Flight A stacks as follows:

The tournament attracted 318 entries (242 unique) – setting a new APT record for field size for this event.

With a juicy **VND 1,943,298,000 (~USD $82,760) prize pool** on the line – the second largest of the Series so far – and only the top 47 places paid out, competition for a place in the money was fiercely contested.

Reigning APT Incheon Main Event champion **Farhad Aghayev** was the man to burst the bubble and guarantee the rest of the field a VND 11,080,000 (~USD $470) payday, his ace-queen unable to overcome the pocket tens of Taiwan's Jui-Ting Chen.

It took a grueling thirty-three 25-minute levels to find a champion, with Chile's **Tomas Molina** the man to triumph over the largest-ever Sunday Super Stack field.

In 2020, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) embarked to introduce a new twist in its tournament format by introducing a bounty tilt wherein players have no idea how much they attain with bust outs they garner. It was coined “The Mystery Bounty”. 

However, COVID-19 halted their plans and it wasn’t until the 2021 Wynn Fall Classic in Las Vegas that the full concept was realized and it is now an integral part of any festival since then, even in online platforms.

Asian Poker Tour (APT) Marketing Manager Ray Chiu—who was then just a regular player—had heard about this new concept and relayed it to APT VP of Poker Operations Lloyd Fontillas who got intrigued by the idea and began efforts to make it part of the tour.

The APT launched its foray into the Mystery Bounty craze by not only integrating it into its regular event schedules but via an entire series dedicated to breaking-in the innovation by virtue of the APT-RWM Mystery Bounty Weekend which ran from March 3-6, 2022 in the Philippines. The initial staging had four events. 

The flagship “Mystery Bounty Single-Day Introduction Event” drew 246 entries with local shark Richard “Hot Sauce” Marquez taking down the inaugural title.

The Mystery Bounty runs like a normal Hold’em tournament until the remaining players enter ITM; at which point, each elimination enables the “executioner” to draw sealed envelopes containing the price of the bounty gained. There are usually three envelopes containing amounts that rival that of the prize money given to the top three finishers in the event—in short, life-changing sums.

It is not an abnormality for players to collect more money from the bounties taken down than the actual purse of their positional finish. 

In the 2022 APT Philippines Mystery Bounty, Don “Pusang Gala” Carmona of the host nation finished ninth in the event for PhP144,200 (~US$2,600) but took down eight bounties, including two of the three big ones each worth PhP288,000 (~US$5,200) with his total haul eclipsing the prize money of eventual champion Song Jangwon of Korea.

Since the first successful run last year, the Mystery Bounty has been one of the most anticipated and thrilling side events of the tour with attendance that comes close to rivaling even the Main Event.

This year, Natural8 has opted to become the title sponsor of this increasingly popular poker tour and the champions’ list has local man Linh Dinh Duc emerging victorious in Hanoi, Japan’s Kaito Hirai winning in Phu Quoc and Sukhum Kiwanont of Thailand triumphing in the [record-breaking most recent staging in Taiwan](https://www.theasianpokertour.com/news/uk-s-sam-lam-wins-biggest-super-high-roller-in-apt-history-for-twd-3-99-m-usd-130-k).
