Day 1B of the APT Poker Weekend Series Manila Main Event held at Casino Filipino, Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel, came and went with 26 players out of the 74 entries qualifying into Day 2. Leading the pack is Ha Duong from Australia who landed some nice hands that paid big to end the day as the overall chip leader with 146,300 in his arsenal.
Duong’s rise was a steady one throughout the day until he railed Kosei Ichinose while holding A♦ A♥. The win brought him over the six-digit chip mark, and one level later, he soared even higher when he eliminated Martin Corpuz with Q♣ Q♠ against 10♣ 10♦.
Two other players crossed six-digit chip mark with Duong, namely Gerard Bringley (Japan) and Raphael Gall (Germany). After Bringley landed a double up with a straight holding J♠ 9♦ against Johnson Tan’s A♠ Q♠ trips on a board of 8♣ 10♠ Q♦ Q♥ 5♦, he never looked back. Bringley ended the day with 116,500 chips.
Close behind Bringley is Gall with 115,300 chips. Gall eliminated several players including Flo Campomanes, and gained more chips when he won a preflop raise war against Duong late in the day. Some notables unable to make the cut were Kwan Kit Kwok, Lester Edoc, Ben Abrahams, and Michael Falcon.
Congratulations to Ha Duong and to all the survivors of Day 1b! They will merge with the 27 qualifiers of Day 1a at 1pm tomorrow. You can read up on some of the action of the Main Event at the Live Reporting section of the website.
