APT Asian Series Cebu 2013 Main Event Final Eight with APT Tournament Director Lloyd Fontillas

Jeon Seung Soo from South Korea defeated compatriot Min Soo Kim in the heads-up round to bag the APT Asian Series Cebu 2013 Main Event title at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu, Philippines. For their efforts, Soo took home PHP 1,302,000 for his championship run while Kim had PHP 762,000 for his 2nd place finish.

Singapore’s Soo Ghee Lim and Russia’s Timofei Levanov finished 3rd and 4th respectively and were involved in one of the biggest hands of the Final Table. Play was 4-handed when Levanov moved all-in from the button with around 275K and then chip-leader Kim put all of his stack to the middle as well acting from the small blind. Lim, from the big blind, decided to join the party and went all-in worth 330K for a 3-way all-in:

Levanov had offsuit King-Six, Kim held pocket sevens while Lim tabled Ace-King. Kim was ahead preflop and his pocket 7’s held after a board of J? 9? 3? 6? 10? busting out the two other players in the process.

The heads-up round was a different story for Kim however. In the hand that changed the tide of the game, Soo opened 100K from the button but saw Kim move all-in. Soo tanked for a bit before making the call:

Jeon Seung Soo: A? 10?

Jeon Seung did spike an unnecessary ace on the board and doubled up his chips to over 2.1M. Jeon Seung took advantage of a crippled Kim and ended the heads up with the winning hand J? 9?.

Next up for the APT is the APT Asian Series Jeju from February 27 to March 6 at the Royal Palace Casino, Oriental Hotel in Jeju, Korea.

Korean Jeon Seung Soo Keeps Going, Leads Final Table

From an average stack in his Day 1, Jeon Seung Soo has consistently upped the ante as he became chip leader after Day 2 and now the chip leader going into the Final Table of the APT Asian Series Cebu 2013 Main Event here at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu, Philippines.

Soo has 671,000 in chips in the 8-handed Final Table which begins play at 3PM later today. Another South Korean in Kim Min Soo is among the leaders with 325,000 in chips (3rd place) and Japanese Koyama Kieta is in 2nd place with 445,00 in chips. The Final Table cast is indeed of international flavor as it features 6 Asians and 2 Europeans.

Korean Soo Leads after Day 2; Last 18 in the Money

Day 2 of the APT Asian Series Cebu Main Event came to a close when eventual chip leader South Korea’s Jeon Seung Soo burst the bubble when his pocket queens took out Ben Abraham‘s pocket nines.

The Korean was in the middle of the pack (41,200 – 20th) at the start of Day 2 but stacked up his chips all day long and is now up to 430,000 going into Day 3 of the Main Event with a PHP 50,000 buy-in. Erstwhile chip leaders Edwin Marzan (led Day 1B) and Timofei Levanov (led Day 1A) are still in the running landing 5th and 6th respectively. The last 18 players, who are now all in the money, will play down to the 8-handed Final Table set Wednesday.

In the side events, Garreth Jones from the United Kingdom grabbed the Freezout title even as Mark Pagsuyin won in the Deep Stack Turbo event. For their efforts, Jones took home PHP 95,300 and Pagsuyuin 61,900 for their first-place finish. Pagsuyuin actually finished in the money (4th) in the freezeout event as well to get over 100K earnings for the day.

Malaysia’s Harry Beatty took down the Megasportsworld Pot Limit Omaha Hi title beating 37 other players in the APT event with a PHP 8,000 buy-in.

The first four side events are in the bag in the APT Asian Series Cebu 2013 as the eight-day poker festivities got underway last Wednesday at the at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu, Philippines in partnership with the All In Poker Club Cebu.

Mix Max Champion Dae Hoon Lim with the APT Ambassadors

Wednesday action saw Dae Hoon Lim grab the trophy in the Mix Max 10-6-4 Event even as Jan-Eric Schwippert won the Charity Event later that day. The beneficiary of the charity tournament was the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children receiving the 30,000 pesos worth of add ons as a donation.

High Rollers Champion: Choi Byung Kyoo

While yesterday, Choi Byung Kyoo joined the winner’s circle after coming out on top of the PokerAce High Rollers Event. Kyoo had a 3:1 chip lead over Minsoo Kim in the heads-up round on his way to the title. In 2011, Kyoo came close to an APT high rollers title when he came in 2nd in the same event in Cebu. Although 2012 APT Player of the Year Samad Razavi bubbled the money in the PokerAce High Rollers event, his multi-tabling paid off as he ended the day with the Mix Game PLH-PLO championship and brought his career winnings to over 1 Million US Dollars.

The Asian Poker Tour has kicked of 2013 with it’s first stop of the year with its third return to the Philippines Queen City of the South – Cebu. The APT Asian Series Cebu features a PHP 50,000 Main Event with 6 Satellites and fourteen Side Events spread across an eight-day schedule from January 23rd to the 30th.

APT Tournament Manager Jason Morris

During the opening ceremony, APT Tournament Manager Jason Morris highlighted on what players can expect from this year’s APT like the eight day event schedule and the 20,000 starting stack with an additional Day 3 for the Main Event.

Already spotted in the field of players are 2012 APT Player of the Year Sam Razavi, who has been very vocal that he wants to retain his title this year, while APT Asian Series Manila 2012 Main Event Champion Jav Medina has already won a seat to the Main Event via one of the opening day’s satellites in his campaign for another APT title.
